CEO Dineo’s Remarks on International Workers Day — Zonk News
I want to share a few reflections on Zonk News on this particular 2020 Workers Day celebration. My thoughts are with all essential workers in these dreadful times, on our dedication to excellence and timely updates, and about the great future we are embarking on as a publication.
I understand that while it is a holiday about work, it does not necessarily mean a holiday from work, especially for the men and women working tirelessly to save lives in these trying times. Many of our family members are busy with their jobs as essential workers, making sure that our patients and their families, as well as the communities we serve, are well cared for. If you are one of those on duty — thank you.
Service and commitment are never just about putting in the time, it can be frustrating, it can be tiring to the bone, and there is always a new challenge. In the case of Zonk News, we are serving a great mission every day we come to work. None of this has been easy, especially during the coronavirus pandemic lockdown, but the rewards of our service are truly life-changing — not only for those we serve but even for us who serve.
I believe that serving others is one of the greatest determinants of happiness and fulfilment in life. When our service feels daunting or frustrating, or we face such unpredictable circumstances, our commitment to excellence and delivery keeps us going. We have some of the most committed people working for Zonk News. Every day I see people perform and bringing their best to their work, and I appreciate each one of them. All of this allows us to serve our mission better.
What is even more significant is what these opportunities give back to us; a sense of identity and worth, value and teams working together to make a difference. Yes, we want to keep social media abuzz, but our mission is keeping the publication alive with stories of how we can be the change we want to see.
We challenge others to do the same, take control over what you can change and make that difference today. Stay safe. Save lives. Happy workers day.
